If it keep on rainin’ the levee gonna breakSome people still sleepin’, some people are wide awake. –Bob Dylan “The Levee’s Gonna Break”
The levee has certainly broken for Enterprise Software, and the great news for everyone in the JD Edwards community is that Lyle Ekdahl and his group in Denver are wide awake to the new realities of customer experience, expectations, and SMART software. We are all lucky to be part of the flood of releases that JD Edwards has put out this week. AutoDeploy is excited to offer our expertise to help the EnterpriseOne customer base stay up to speed with all of the changes that are taking place with the EnterpriseOne 9.2 tools and applications release. Here’s a quick primer on our thoughts about how the 9.2 release(s) can help your organization gain immediate value in migrating to 9.2.
The time required to scale a JD Edwards implementation for production readiness has historically been dependent on in-depth knowledge of the data model and process of the system. Not every client had this type of experienced resource in-house, which resulted in the utilization of third party consulting resources for pre-project, in-project and post-project phases. The client’s internal IT eventually developed or hired the skills necessary to maintain and drive further system changes. But because this IT-driven model of business system value was so complex, it often resulted in the business user community experiencing long delays in garnering the value of reporting and analysis of the transaction data that are the essentials element of an online transaction processing system.
The designation of selected objects as User Defined Object (UDO) is JD Edwards’ attempt to empower the business user to extract more value out of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne software.
The 9.2 tools release offers unified lifecycle management (ULCM) for UDOs. Because UDOs are not spec-based, they operate under a different lifecycle than spec-based objects. With ULCM, administrators have a consistent user experience across UDO types for security (Security Workbench) and object transfer between pathcodes (P98220U – Object Management Workbench – web).
Users have a consistent user experience across UDO types for creation and management of objects using the object managers for each object type. Approvers have a consistent user experience across UDO types when previewing and approving/sharing objects (P98220U – Work with User Defined Objects).
The following non-Object Librarian objects have been identified as UDO types in EnterpriseOne Tools 9.2:
- CAFE1 – Composite Application Framework
- E1PAGE – EnterpriseOne Pages
- FORMAT – Grid Format
- ONEVIEW – One View Reports
- QUERY – Query
- WATCHLIST – One View Watchlist
With the development of a standard, repeatable model for managing user defined objects and content, JD Edwards has made a transformational step in creating a digital outcome based model for ERP. JD Edwards development deserves enormous credit for adopting an industry leading position on how enterprise software is utilized.
